5 Ideas For Throwing a New Years Party

5 Ideas For Throwing a New Years Party

Believe it or not another year is coming to an end and a brand new year is upon us. Chances are, many of you are searching for a few party ideas. Here are five simple ideas to get the party started!

1. Hold a Dance Competition: You can either make this a big time consuming event or you can make it really brief. Be sure to offer door prizes to the top performers. Here are three ways to throw a dance competition ranging from longest to shortest.

- Dance Endurance – See how long your guests can dance without sitting down. Make the competition about who can stay out on the floor the longest. Many times the worst dancers are actually the most entertaining and it would be a shame to sit them down early. Just be sure that no on over does it.

- Tap on the Shoulder Competition – Assign three guests the job of being judges. When the three judges come to a consensus on whom the worst couple one of them taps the couple on the shoulder and they sit down. The last couple left wins.

- Soul Train Style – Have your guest form a soul train line while each couple or individual dances down the middle. Let the guests pick the

winner with their applause. For effect, you can have them dance between two lines of people holding lit sparklers.

2. Have a Costume Party – Almost everyone loves a good costume party. You can either make it an anything goes competition or do a theme. For example, you could have a celebrity look a like contest. Again, offer door prizes for the best costumes.

3. Time Capsule – We all know that most New Years resolutions are forgotten by February. Why not have a little fun with this. Have everyone write down their New Years resolution and read it in front of the other guests. Place all of the resolutions into the time capsule. You can either bury the time capsule in the yard or you can tuck it away in the back of the closest somewhere. Then you can open it back up and read them at next year’s party.

4. Theme Party – Pick a theme for your party. Have your guests bring decorations in to add to the theme as they arrive. You can base your theme around a fun decade such as the 20s, 60s, or 80s. You can also base your theme on something popular at this current time such as a movie.

5. Have a Charity Poker Tournament – So what if you have a bunch of low key guests that aren’t going to go anywhere near the dance floor. Have everyone list a charity to play for. Have the list preapproved ahead of time. Make sure people pick charities that almost anyone would approve of. Avoid political causes that could offend several people. Keep the buy in small because we are in a recession right now. Something in the ballpark of five dollars should be fine. If you have ten people playing, then that is a $50 donation to charity.
